Breathnach welcomes update from TII on Ardee Bypass

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach has welcomed the update from TII on the future of the Ardee Bypass and says co-operation is needed to finally make the plans a reality. This follows a meeting with Louth Oireachtas members and TII officials last week.

“The situation is that the planning permission relating to this project is outdated. Planning started in the late 1990’s, with approval being given in 2005.  his was a shovel ready project at that stage, but there was no funding given for it at the time.

“When the scheme was re-activated in 2018 a number of concerns regarding the design were expressed by local communities. The concerns primarily relate to the creation of two cul-de-sacs that were included as part of the scheme in the Mullenstown/Coole area and the negative impacts that these would have on local residents and traffic movements.

Breathnach continued “It’s important now that consideration is given to the EU Habitats Directive 2012.  Environmental issues raised must be addressed”

The TII confirmed to Breathnach there would be a public consultation process on the Ardee Bypass in March or April of next year.

He concluded that “It is important to note also that this is a project of such great importance it should not be politicised and used for point-scoring with talks of an election in the air.  I firmly believe that all parties should work collectively to achieve the delivery of the Ardee Bypass.
