Breathnach says Government intervention is needed as Louth rents rise 3.6% to €1,236

-The figures come from the Daft.ie Irish Rental Report Quarter 3 2019-
Fianna Fáil TD Declan Breathnach has said the rental market is ‘out of control’ as rents rise for the 14th quarter in a row nationwide and rise 3.6% in Louth in the last year. The figures from Daft.ie Irish Rental Report on Quarter 3 of 2019 show that the average rent in Louth is now €1,236, the fourth highest rent per County in the state.

“The report from Daft.ie show one thing very clearly, there has been an increasing demand for property but a lack of supply. It is no wonder rents have continued to increase year or year. There are so many young people who simply cannot afford to move out and rent, let alone dream of getting on the property ladder.”

“From late 2010-2019, rents in Louth have increased by a staggering 102%. The attitude of the Government appears to be that the market will solve the problem, but this clearly hasn’t been working. Supply of units is urgently needed to deal with a young and growing workforce who want to have the option to move nearer to their jobs and avoid long commutes every day.”
