Breathnach calls on DKIT President to explain rationale for not engaging in the process to become a Technical University
– Vacuum of information coming from management is damaging –
Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach has called on the President of DKIT to give an update to all Oireachtas Members and locally elected Public Representatives, in addition to his Teaching Staff and their Unions on what the exact plan is for DKIT going forward.
“In light of the vacuum of explanation or information coming from Management of DKIT, people are left with no option but to take the view that it is a big mistake not to engage in the TU process and avail of a €6.4 million share of funding for those colleges who engage with this process.
“I am aware that Management have not avoided this process lightly. It is now incumbent on them to clearly explain the rationale for this decision and lay out unequivocally what the plan for DKIT is, or, if involved in some sort of sensitive negotiations and can’t give a full explanation now, let people know this is the case.
“The only way to avoid the current strike action is to sit down with the staff and unions and engage in meaningful and open dialogue.
“The staff, Unions and indeed the students of DKIT deserve to know what is going on and not be left in the dark as they currently are.
