Waiting list for child occupational therapy assessment unacceptable – Breathnach

– HSE figures reveal 288 children on waiting list for primary care paediatric occupational therapy assessment in South Louth/Drogheda Area –

Fianna Fáil TD Declan Breathnach has said the number of children in Louth waiting for an occupational therapy assessment is unacceptable and said the Minister and HSE needed to fill the vacancies in the service which have led to these waiting lists. Breathnach received the figures from the HSE, which relate to South Louth and not the County as a whole.

“The number of children on a waiting list, particularly for over a year, makes for stark reading. Growing waiting lists have been a consistent theme under this Government. The HSE letter confirms that unfulfilled vacancies in the sector are the reason for these waiting lists.”

“The State and the HSE have a duty to do better by these children. Minister Harris needs to fill the vacancies in the service to address these waiting lists as a matter of urgency.”
