Fianna Fáil TD Declan Breathnach has said issues with the School Bus system are getting worse and has called on Minister Shane Ross to ensure all school buses are deemed roadworthy.

Figures revealed from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) to Fianna Fáil TD and party Education Spokesperson Thomas Byrne, showed that 39 per cent of school buses fail roadside safety inspections. Of the 1,178 roadside inspections carried out on school busses from July 2018 to July 2019 – 456 failed.

“These figures show that are serious issues with the safety quality of the school bus fleet. Families deserve to have security and peace of mind that their child is being brought to and from school in a safe vehicle.
