Questions to answer on Government’s Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan Scheme – Breathnach

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Deputy Declan Breathnach, has questioned the Minister for Housing on the Government’s Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan Scheme and asked why people in Louth and Meath have not been able to draw-down their loans. Deputy Breathnach also questioned the holding of dual applications and asked if the database held by the Department was accurate.

Deputy Breathnach explained, “The Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan Scheme appears to be in disarray. This morning we heard reports that the Government-backed mortgage scheme has been put on hold because it has run out of funding. I questioned the Minster on why the scheme, which was much vaunted by the Government was paused, and I believe he still has a lot of questions to answer.

“The Government announced this scheme with much fan-fare, yet they haven’t put the same effort in to resourcing it. I tried to help many constituents get their heads around the complicated application forms and now those who have submitted a valid application are wondering whether they have done so in vein.

“The Minister needs to clarify for these people what he is going to do about it and whether their applications are in jeopardy. This is further evidence, as if we needed it, that Fine Gael is failing miserably on housing policy”, concluded Deputy Breathnach.
