Breathnach welcomes resolution which will allow Faughart School to reopen
– This long-running saga finally has come to a satisfactory conclusion –
Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach has welcomed whole-heartedly the announcement today by Minister Richard Bruton that a resolution has been agreed to allow Faughart National School re-open in September.
“The announcement comes following negotiations with the existing Patron of the school. I am delighted that the way has been paved to allow Faughart National School re-open in September, and I am informed that the school will now be opened under the new patronage. I have had many Dáil debates on this issue and had communicated to the Archbishop of Armagh the importance of allowing the school to re-open which is the wish of many local families”.
A Joint Statement from the Department of Education and Skills and the Archdiocese of Armagh at 1pm stated:-
“Arising from these positive discussions, the Archdiocese, in association with the Parish, has agreed to make the vacant school property available to the Department for educational purposes subject to an appropriate agreement.
The practical details are being worked through by the Department with a view to achieving a September 2018 opening, in line with its commitment to diversity.
Archbishop Eamon Martin said that he is pleased that discussions with the Department are reaching a satisfactory conclusion.”
“This is great news for the community of Faughart”, concluded Breathnach.
