Breathnach welcomes announcement of new Community Based Respite service for the region
– arrangements to transfer respite services from St. John of Gods North East Service have been finalised –
Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach has welcomes the announcement by the HSE regarding the transfer of respite services from St. John of Gods North East Service to a new community based service.
“In a letter from the Head of Social Care it was confirmed that the lengthy procurement tendering process has now been completed and that the successful provider will be Moorehall Living who will provide the respite service from their premises in Ardee”.
“The letter stated that over the coming weeks the service users transferring will be contacted and the families will be given an opportunity to visit the new premises with a view to developing a transitioning plan for the service users.”
“I am aware from previous meetings I have had relating to respite services that the new facility will provide 4 beds with a hopeful capacity in 2019 of 1,300 bed nights.”
“While this is very welcome news, more needs to be done to alleviate the plight of elderly parents into their 80s and 90s looking after their aging adult family members. There are huge concerns about elderly and ill parents not having services available to assist them. The promised audit of Disability Services for Louth identifying services available and unmet needs has to be completed without any further delay and arrangements made to identify suitable service providers who can fill any gaps identified”, concluded Breathnach.
