– I attended at The Bower House in Balbriggan, the newly opened Respite Service where Minister McGrath outlined budget –
Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach attended at the newly opened Respite Centre at The Bower House, Balbriggan, where Minister Finian McGrath was in attendance to announce the HSE’s plans on the implementation of the Government funded Respite Development Programme for 2018.
“There is €10m in additional funding for respite for people with a disability and their families which is much needed and long overdue,” said Breathnach.
“The Bower House in Balbriggan which is now catering for families in Louth, as well as Meath and North County Dublin is very welcome, however, we need more services to come on-stream.”
“The Minister had outlined that €8 million will provide for nine new dedicated houses for respite in each Community Health Area plus an additional three houses in the greater Dublin area to respond to the very high demand for respite from this part of the country. He had stated in the Dáil in December 2017 when this funding was announced that he would keep a very close eye on how the additional funding is put to work. He said he will require the HSE to give the utmost priority to putting these new facilities and services in place without delay because it is a very important part of our disability services. He outlined that the Government have put €1.763 billion into the social care plan in 2017 and we have to ensure it goes to people with disabilities and their families and carers.”
“I will be keeping a close eye on progress of these new services and will be holding the Minster and the HSE to account”, concluded Breathnach.
