Breathnach frustrated at on-going lack of RTE Correspondent for the North East

– Jon Williams, Head of News and Current Affairs advised a Dáil Briefing that they are meeting next week to discuss the issue of a correspondent for the North East –

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach has expressed his frustration at the on-going lack of an RTE Correspondent for the North East at a Dáil Briefing held today.

“RTE gave a briefing to Oireachtas Members on changes they are proposing in relation to their reporting of Oireachtas affairs. I asked whether there were any plans to provide a Correspondent for the North East who have been without representation from our National Broadcaster for some time now. I was advised that they will be meeting next week to discuss this issue.”

“RTE have had a regional office for the North East in the Regional Development Centre on the DKIT Campus since 2013, but that office has remained unoccupied since Richard Dowling became head of RTE’s political unit.”

“It is unacceptable to be left without a Correspondent reporting from our region, when we are paying our licence fees like every other area of the Country.”
