Breathnach welcomes news of funding for Flood Risk Areas

– I have sought clarification of the specifics in relation to amounts allocated to each area –

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth and East Meath Declan Breathnach has welcomed today’s announcement by Minister Kevin Moran of funding for Flood Risk Management.

“While €260m has been announced today to protect almost 8,000 homes, I have sought specifics in relation to the amount allocated to Louth and am awaiting an official response from the Minister. I had asked some recent Parliamentary Questions in relation to Flood Defence Funding for Louth and the reply received at the end of last month from the Minister stated that “I would hope by the end of this year to seek the approval from the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform for the 29 Flood Risk Management Plans developed under the CFRAM process.”

“While nothing has been confirmed to me in writing from the Minister, I welcome that it has been widely reported that Co Louth will be receiving up to €79m, with €40m for Dundalk alone and another €16m for Drogheda, and €23m in funding for Carlingford/Greenore.”

“I welcome the funding as this will give families, business and property owners at risk of flooding some badly needed security and relief.”
